Direct agglutination, Rose Bengal test, Coombs´test and ELISA are the most widely used techniques for the serologic diagnosis of brucellosis. Detection of IgG against Brucella lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is suitable for the diagnosis of all forms of the disease. The ELISA technique is sensitive and specific for the detection of IgG antibodies against Brucella. Detection methods based on chemiluminescence have received much attention due to their low background, linearity and wide dynamic range. When coupled to enzyme immunoassays, the signal amplification effect provided by the enzyme enables the design of CLIA (ChemiLuminescent ImmunoAssay) tests with shorter incubation times while keeping or improving their sensitivity.
